For the X6, I’m going for a little wider than my commercial boards but narrower than the Sensei Sebastian. I’m looking to find a middle ground between stability and maneuverability. I’m also looking to get long parallel rails, keeping the board as square as I dare. At first I was thinking about a rounded nose that went right into parallel rails but then decided to square up the nose a little while giving it a more gradual curve to the rail so I had a little more rocker when riding the rail. I was a little bit more aggressive with the tail, choosing to keep the rail straight for as long as I can and then go for a quicker release at the end.
I used a piece of vinyl trim I have lying around the shed to trace the curves after I broke my oak dowel. I prefer the dowel since it’s easier to clamp down which helps when you are working alone. But I managed to sweet talk my wife into helping me out this time.
The gate on the BladeRunner doesn’t go out to ten inches so I had to freehand the rip cut. It still went smoother than using a jig saw. I used the BladeRunner to also scroll cut the template. Then I clamped it on it’s side to sand it smooth. Overall, I’m fairly happy with the shape.
